Role Description:

The Entrepreneurship Navigator role is focused on providing support, connection, and guidance to new and aspiring entrepreneurs who are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community here in Newfoundland and Labrador. This position will identify a cohort of individuals who are either new entrepreneurs, or who have a business idea they would like to develop, and work to guide them through the process of setting up their new business, help them to access the correct resources, and connect them with a group of mentors in the same community to offer their insight and experience as required. The incumbent candidate will be part of Quadrangle NL’s Outreach team, and will also be available to support the regular operations of the centre’s outreach space.

The successful applicant responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for the oversight and development of the program through establishing policies and best practices

  • Oversight of project budget

  • Responsible for overall integrity of the project

  • Communications and evaluation of the program

  • Identification and support of caseload of individuals who are seeking to start or grow their business idea

  • Creation of a network of Business Mentors that will provide peer support and guidance to mentees in program

  • Work with Entrepreneurship System Mapping Officer to assist in development of “Business in a Box” project by providing data from caseload

  • Identification of local consultants who can assist in program guidance as a partnership

  • Coordinate and facilitate skill workshops and presentations to caseload and others in community on small businesses and entrepreneurship topics

  • Provide ongoing guidance and support in navigating the legal and financial requirements in launching a small business in Newfoundland and Labrador

  • Build relationships with Two Spirit, trans, non-binary, intersex, and gender diverse individuals and supportive agencies across the province

  • Collect data on the needs of the community

  • Responsible for analysis results of the project through the creation and dissemination reports to our partners and various governmental departments.

  • Peer support and group facilitation

  • Provide written reports to the Executive Director as required and in project reporting when required by funders

This role will be part of Quadrangle NL’s general outreach team, and has a requirement for some in office outreach activities/support week to week.

This role requires some paid travel across the island of Newfoundland and within Labrador and some travel nationally. Access to a vehicle is required for this role. 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience within and for the Two Spirit, trans, non-binary, intersex, and gender diverse community as well as the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities of NL

  • Experience with entrepreneurship, small business growth, and/or the local business sector

  • Knowledge of small business management, regulations, and operations

  • Ability to work with and apply a social justice, anti-racist, anti-colonialist framework and lens to the tasks of the role

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong strategic thinking abilities

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Peer support experience

  • Evidence of ability to take initiative

  • Research and data collection experience

  • Evidence of ability to work independently and collaboratively

Additional assets include:

  • Experience with 2SLGBTQIA+ community and barriers faced

  • Experience in the local small business and entrepreneurial environment

  • Financial management experience

  • Design and copy editing skills

  • Experience with Excel, Microsoft Word, Zoom and social media platforms

Compensation is $60,000 annually, including healthcare benefits, paid-time off, winter break and RRSP.

Quadrangle NL operates a Community Centre for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, the successful applicant will be responsible to be in the centre for several shifts per week to ensure they are able to meet the needs of the community and connect with program participants.

The Entrepreneurship System Mapping Officer is responsible for the development and launch of a “Business in a Box” toolkit that will provide a new, or aspiring, entrepreneur with a complete guide to launch their business idea in Newfoundland and Labrador. Working with the Entrepreneurship Navigator and the Quadrangle Outreach team, the ideal candidate will engage with community partners, members, and other organizations to identify barriers to business formation, management, and growth, while also compiling a list of resources and contacts to assist with navigating these same challenges. This research focused position will create a resource that will support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community for years to come.
