Welcome to the Octagon Library! Please read the following for more information about the library and its policies.

Signing Up for a Library Account

  • Visit the Quad (330 Elizabeth Ave.) to sign up for a free library account

  • You will need to provide your name and an email address and/or phone number

    • No ID is necessary to sign up for a library account! Your account will be listed under your self-declared name

    • If you are unable to provide an email address or phone number, let us know. We’ll figure out a solution together

  • The Octagon Library stores this information in its library software, so you will not be issued a physical library card

Borrowing Books

  • You can borrow up to 3 books at a time, for a period of two weeks

  • The Octagon Library does not charge late fees for overdue books, but you will be unable to check out more books if you have one or more overdue books

  • You will be charged a replacement fee for lost books, or books which are too badly damaged to be put back into circulation

    o If you are unable to pay the fee, let us know. We’ll figure out a solution together

  • If you provide an email address, you will receive an email notification three days before your book is due back

  • You will receive an email or phone notification if your book is more than a week overdue

  • You may renew your books one time, for an additional two weeks. Call or email the Octagon Library to do so

  • You may place a hold on any book listed in our online catalogue. Call or email the Octagon Library to do so. One of our staff or volunteers will let you know if the book is currently available, and how long you will have to pick it up

The Octagon Library is open when Quadrangle is open (visit https://www.thequadnl.com/ for the its hours). Quadrangle is located at 330 Elizabeth Avenue, in St. John’s.
