Join Quadrangle board member Dr. Sulaimon Giwa and Executive Director Charles Murphy as they present on the facilitators and barriers to health care for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Minoritized groups/unserved often face proportionally more health challenges (due to the impact of the social determinants of health), and are often less connected with family medicine / other care.
The emergency department is the first access point to care, and if people feel unsafe presenting to staff it can have a devastating impact on their health. The goal is to learn about the challenges and barriers to seeking care minoritized groups may face, and by doing so hope to address these barriers to create a safer ER that provides equitable care and feels welcoming to all.
The target audience for this presentation is anyone who works in the emergency department at eastern health. This includes registration staff, paramedics, personal care attendants, nurses, resident physicians, physicians, respiratory therapists, housekeeping and others.
Eastern Health Emergency Department was funded by the Quick Start Grant for Public Engagement through Memorial University.
